Darryl Dawkins Fades Away

On Thursday morning the National Basketball Association lost one of the greats. Darryl Dawkins who was 58 years old died of a unexpected heart attack. He leaves behind his wife Janice, children Dara, Tabitha, Nicholas and Alexis.

Dawkins nicknamed "Chocolate Thunder" by Stevie Wonder was selected 5th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers right out of high school. In his 15 year career he played with the 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz and the Detroit Pistons. Dawkins was known for his thunderous dunks and shattering backboards.

Dawkins shattered two backboards during the 1979 NBA season causing the NBA to start using breakaway rims. After 25 years of playing basketball Dawkins had three coaching stints. Chocolate Thunder has gone on to a better place and will truly be missed. RIP Darryl Dawkins.
